Microneedling therapeutic stem cells into damaged tissues

Small and minimally invasive ‘Detachable Microneedle Depots’ effectively deliver stem cells for localized MSC therapy of skin disorders. Microneedles, made of a biomaterial mixed with therapeutic agents, are attached to a strip of tape, needles facing down. The strip is applied to the wound area of the skin and the tape removed. The needles are embedded into the skin and degrade, delivering the therapeutic agent under the skin. [Read More...]

UCLA scientists create first roadmap of human skeletal muscle development

These microscopic images show gene expression in muscle stem and progenitor cells as they mature from early development to adulthood (left to right). As part of this process, the cells switch from actively expressing one key gene (green) to another (violet); this is accompanied by the growth of muscle fibers (red). Crohn’s disease: Preserving inflammation-free phases

Small intestinal crypts of Crohn´s disease patients.Credit: Prof. Dirk Haller / TUM Early detection of Crohn’s disease flare-ups leads to improved therapy options Intestinal stem cell metabolism is facilitated by mitochondria – the in-cell power plants. Chronic inflammation processes inhibit the cells’ metabolism and lead to functional loss of these stem cells. In collaboration with the Helmholz Zentrum München and the [Read More...]
